BPO firm to give English refresher courses to teachers

Information Technology and business process outsourcing company (BPO) is an investment in a project focused on training school teachers in the English language to help students improve their English skills.

Romina Gupta, general manager of Wipro Ltd. BPO country of the Philippines, said the company had partnered with the Department of Education in Central Visayas to implement the project, named "Excellence in Communication for Public Education (ECE) ".

Gupta and the Department of Education-7 Recaredo Borgoni Director signed the agreement yesterday.

"We believe that good teachers produce good students that can be easily absorbed by the industries that need it, as the BPO industry," said Gupta.

He said the project would help public school teachers to brush up on the English language, especially in critical areas often confused by the Filipino as a subject-verb agreements, redundancy and "Filipinoisms" as the phrase "justice ".

"We have provided training to the two lots with a total of 60 students in May and we have seen improvements as soon as possible, which show only the project's potential to make a better way than you have now," said rupt.

Borgoni said the Department of Education-7 welcomed the initiative of the private and Wipro as ECE jives with the thrust of the department in improving the English competition and balance between academia and industry and the outsourcing .

"We hope that the direction (under the command of English learners), this simple initiative that will surely have a ripple effect to our students and each teacher would take at least 30 students per class," he said.

Borgoni say early in the project, which will focus more on teachers in high school and later elementary school teachers in Cebu. / Reporter Aileen Garcia-Yap
