property tax return online Website down for last 15 days

South Delhi residents unable to file property tax online, Website down for last 15 days:

While the corporations are yet to make their website operational with updated information, residents of South corporation are facing another inconvenience - the online services concerned with property tax has been down since the past 15 days.

Those who tried to fill property tax return forms online came across a message stating that services have been shut down for maintenance.

Sushil Malik, a resident of Lajpat Nagar, has been trying to access the website for past one week and was disappointed every time he logged in.

“The website says services are shut down and will be restored soon. But it does not mention how soon,” he said.

According to the IT department officials, the website has been shut down as upgradation in tax slabs and categories are to be made.

“We have to reconcile the data on the website to make it relevant to tax payer for financial year 2012-13. There are certain changes that we have made in categories and that will also be amended and updated soon,” the official said.

The official said this has been a usual practice — the reconciliation is carried out every year after the new slabs are announced.

Farhad Suri, Leader of the Opposition, South corporation, said the website is upgraded only after June 30. “The last date for filing property tax return is June 30 and tax payers can avail a 15 per cent rebate if they pay before this date. It is only after June 30 that the website is shutfor three to seven days.

To my knowledge, this year, this site has been shut for past 15 days in April itself, which shows the incompetence of the department. This is a time when people would be filing their returns to gain 2 per cent rebate, over and above the 15 per cent rebate, for filing their returns online. They have already lost 15 days,” he said.

According to the officials the site will be running by Wednesday. “There were certain difficulties like standardising the tax system of all corporations and we have been figuring this out. The site will be running soon,” an IT department official said.
